It took me a long time to post a blog again since I've been working and vacationing. I've been to Zambales, Guimaras, and Iloilo. I've spend so much in the beach that I didn't even bother putting sunscreens anymore coz I will just get tanned again anyways (I already have a booked trip next month). So I thought, since I've been spending too much time in the sea, why don't I just be a mermaid? And that is what I did!
Yesterday, I went to Cafe Mermania in Marikina with Piggy, after purchasing a discount voucher in Metrodeal. I got 2 vouchers that is worth Php300 each for only Php175/voucher.
The Place (5/5)
Cafe Mermania |
Cafe Mermania is a Mermaid-themed cafe situated along Gen Ordonez, Marikina.
I'm gonna be honest, at first glance the exterior didn't look like a cafe or restaurant at all. It looked like a laundry shop or water refill station.
We got there 15 minutes earlier than their opening time which is 12:00PM so we had to wait before the sign says open. Good thing though since we were the first ones and we had the place for ourselves for about an hour. Upon entering we were welcomed by a smiling staff, the light colorful walls and a merman. You may opt to stay near entrance where there are tables and chairs but in Mermaid Room is where the fun is.

I immediately headed to The Mermaid room but Piggy stopped me to change my footwear. Maybe because of hygienic purposes, they require guests entering Mermaid Room to change footwear to these fish slippers. We both got the ones that look like Tilapya.

Mermaid Room is wider than the one in entrance but still small (I am confusing, I know!). It has low tables and colorful beanbags. Perfect for group/barkada dates. There are stools in case the place is full, good for solo diners. (Why am I so promoting this place? Coz I love it!) The one thing we noticed (actually it's just Piggy) is the lack of wall designs. I didn't mind though, coz the minimalism adds to the chillness of the place. Calming/Chill music was playing in the background that was part of the reason we stayed longer. It was so chiiillllll!!!

The Service (5/5)
I like themed restaurants/cafes because they provide stuff that can kill time while waiting for the food to arrive. This cafe is Mermaid-themed (obviously) so everything about it has mermaids. And of course this wouldn't be Mermaid-y enough if you won't turn into one. By ordering a minimum order of Php200, you can wear their colorful fins and pose in the giant clam stage.
The lady (I didn't know if she's the owner or a server) guided us in the Mermaid Room (everyone is nice there). There is a Mermaid closet, keeper of the fins, and a small but complete comfort room. I love CRs with bidet, tissues, and liquid soap. Moving on...
After placing our orders, I immediately tried out the fins. It was confusing to wear at first coz they're longer than my legs (Maybe American size. LOL). I got to wear 2 different fins coz we were alone in the Mermaid Room. Walang kaagaw! I present our photoshoot. Piggy wasn't happy.

The Food (5/5)
Cafe Mermania |
This, I was surprised. Most of the restos and cafes I've been in were too focused in aesthetics and gimmicks that they forget the most important part of the business: food. You can attract people with the bright colors and cute stuff but the key to make them go back is good (or great) food, in which this cafe did not disappoint.
We ordered buffalo wings solo with rice, carbonara, mango caramel crepe, strawberry frappe, and house blend iced tea. They also serve pastries with mermaid fins and rolled ice cream but our vouchers exclude those so we didn't get to try them.

Carbonara was creamy and tasty, even its complimentary garlic bread. The buffalo wings were crispy fried and sauce has perfect blend of sour, salty, spicy, and sweet that compliments the garlicy taste of the garlic cream sauce (well duh?). The strawberry frappe has a berry good surprise that will blast in you (oh so punny!). Even the house blend iced tea tasted authentic iced tea and not that powdered one. The only downside was the crepe. It was bland if not for the mangoes and texture was more on a thinly spread pancake than a crepe. But the thing about is it makes you want to order more. It was so unfair. LOL.
Look how hangry I was! Then I'm not. |
The Price (4/5)
Honestly even though I loved the food, I thought the servings will be bigger considering the price. See prices here:
Overall (4.5/5)
I will go back. Imma try those other colored fins. Imma eat some rolled ice cream and cute pastries. Imma get my cats some mermaid merch! Just kidding. But yeah I'll definitely go back!
